Indonesia and France have maintained diplomatic relations for over seventy years since their establishment in 1947, fostering a sense of friendship and mutual respect. During a recent state visit to Jakarta, French President Emmanuel Macron received a warm reception at Merdeka Palace. The ceremonial welcome was marked by the presence of approximately 3,000 students representing various levels of education, elegantly dressed and enthusiastically waving Indonesian and French flags as President Macron’s motorcade made its way from Monas to the palace with tight security measures in place.
Upon his arrival at Merdeka Palace, President Macron was greeted by President Prabowo Subianto, culminating in an official welcome ceremony. The two leaders walked together to the ceremonial grounds as the national anthems of both countries played and a 21-gun salute paid tribute to the occasion. Amid Jakarta’s clear blue skies, Prabowo and Macron reviewed the honor guard while acknowledging the spirited students in the palace courtyard waving miniature flags.
This significant event was attended by members of the Red and White Cabinet, including Prabowo’s son, Ragowo Hediprasetyo. Macron’s itinerary in Indonesia featured visits to the Military Academy in Magelang and the UNESCO World Heritage site, Borobudur Temple, highlighting the shared cultural and educational values between the two nations. Following the ceremonial welcome, the heads of state engaged in a closed-door bilateral meeting to explore strategic partnerships, emphasizing the deepening relationship between Indonesia and France.
