Hariqo Wibawa Satria, Senior Expert at the Presidential Communication Office (PCO), emphasized the significance of the Free Health Check (CKG) program as a crucial step towards fostering a healthier nation. According to him, CKG serves as a foundational initiative that aims to shift the mindset of individuals towards prioritizing their health and well-being. He envisions a future where each Independence Day not only commemorates the country’s freedom but also celebrates the increasing number of Indonesians liberated from diseases.
Under President Prabowo’s administration, various priority programs have been implemented to address health issues comprehensively. These initiatives range from CKG and the “Stop TB” campaign to the enhancement of regional public hospitals and the provision of special incentives for medical professionals in remote areas. Despite Indonesia marking its 80th year of independence, the nation continues to grapple with the burden of diseases, impacting both the economy and society.
The current life expectancy in Indonesia hovers around 73-74 years, yet illnesses pose a significant challenge by impeding productivity and affecting the GDP. Studies have highlighted the substantial economic losses attributed to illness-related factors such as absenteeism, reduced work performance, and early retirement. Notably, investments in health are portrayed as not just social expenses but strategic economic assets, considering the potential for health improvements to bolster economic growth.
Moreover, Hariqo underscored the prevalence of health issues among Indonesian children, including diabetes, obesity, and dental problems. Insufficient health education and excessive gadget use contribute to these issues, highlighting the vital role of CKG in promoting preventive measures and enhancing health literacy. The ultimate goal is to witness a healthier population with fewer individuals affected by diseases, consequently fostering national development and economic progress.
By prioritizing public health and reducing illness rates, Indonesia stands to benefit from increased life expectancy and enhanced workforce productivity. Studies suggest that a sharp decline in illness rates could lead to a notable growth in GDP annually. Hence, initiatives like CKG play a crucial role not only in promoting individual well-being but also in boosting the nation’s overall economic prosperity.
