President Prabowo Subianto highlighted the enduring importance of the “Bandung Spirit” during the recent BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Indonesia’s Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, reported that President Prabowo emphasized the nation’s dedication to global peace and adherence to international law in his address to the forum. He reiterated Indonesia’s commitment to promoting global peace through multilateralism and respecting international law, while firmly rejecting war and double standards in international relations.

Furthermore, President Prabowo also emphasized the significance of upholding the “Bandung Spirit” to his fellow BRICS leaders. This principle refers to the solidarity among developing nations that was established during the 1955 Asian-African Conference in Bandung, Indonesia. The President called for the continued relevance of the Bandung Spirit within the BRICS forum, particularly concerning issues such as the Palestinian conflict.

Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs, Arrmanatha Nasir, confirmed that Brazil, as the host country of the BRICS Summit, warmly welcomed the reference to the Bandung Spirit. Prior to President Prabowo mentioning it, Brazil had already invoked the Bandung principles in its opening statement as the Chair of the summit. Brazil expressed hope that BRICS could revive the Bandung legacy to further advance the interests of developing nations.
