Prof. Hikmahanto Juwana, an international relations observer, appreciates the Indonesian government’s concrete action through Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto in helping to address the emergency situation in Gaza, Palestine. According to him, Indonesia has become the most concrete country in assisting Gaza.
He praised Prabowo’s firm speech at the Emergency High-Level Conference for Gaza some time ago in Amman, Jordan. Compared to other countries participating in this conference, he believes that Indonesia’s stance is the most genuine and courageous.
Hikmahanto stated that Indonesia is not just talking, but also taking concrete actions, such as being prepared to accommodate 1,000 patients and 1,000 students to be treated and educated in Indonesia. He believes that this may worry the US and Israel.
“So I see that Indonesia’s courage will be noticed by other countries, not just talking and making empty promises, but already taking real actions. This is what will make the United States and Israel worried,” Hikmahanto told reporters in Jakarta on Friday (14/6).
He continued that the planned actions are believed to pressure Israel and its ally the United States to stop the genocidal actions.
“We hope that this concern will be able to stop what Israel is doing in Gaza. This is because the United Nations, from the General Assembly to the Security Council, seems powerless against Israel’s atrocities,” he said.
Therefore, Hikmahanto hopes that Indonesia’s concrete steps through Prabowo at the Jordan conference could be followed by other countries.
“I hope that what Mr. Prabowo has done will form what we call a humanitarian coalition. What the world needs to stop Israel is humanity. I believe that if we talk about humanity, it will be supported by many parties,” he hoped.
