Jakarta – On August 12, 2024, the Capital City of Nusantara (IKN) will host the inaugural cabinet meeting marking a significant moment in the transition of the Indonesian government. This event is not just a regular meeting, but also a symbol of the beginning of the transfer of power from President Joko Widodo to the President-elect, Prabowo Subianto.
State Secretary Minister Pratikno revealed that this cabinet meeting will discuss various important matters related to planning the government’s programs for the next year and evaluating the performance during the current year. “This meeting is open to the public, but there will be some points discussed in more detail, especially regarding the government transition,” said Pratikno.
The cabinet meeting at IKN is also an opportunity to assess the readiness of infrastructure in the new capital. President Jokowi himself visited IKN at the end of July to ensure the readiness of facilities and infrastructure. From this visit, important aspects such as electricity, internet, and drinking water have been confirmed to be in good condition by the Minister of Public Works and People’s Housing, Basuki Hadimuljono. “We have prepared the State Palace and the Garuda Palace in Penajam Paser Utara for this cabinet meeting,” added Basuki.
Focus on Leadership Transition
The inaugural cabinet meeting at IKN is not only aimed at evaluating the government’s performance but also at laying the groundwork for a smooth transition to the new government. “This is the final phase of President Jokowi’s government. The transition to President Prabowo must be carried out smoothly,” emphasized Pratikno.
All ministers from the Indonesia Maju Cabinet have been invited to attend this cabinet meeting, indicating the importance of the event in ensuring the smooth transition. This meeting is also an opportunity for ministers to discuss the steps that need to be taken to support the government’s agenda under new leadership.
Infrastructure Readiness at IKN
In addition to discussing the transition, this cabinet meeting is also a test of the readiness of infrastructure at IKN. Since the decision to move the capital from Jakarta to East Kalimantan, various preparations have been made, including the construction of key facilities such as roads, government buildings, and other supporting systems.
Acting Head of the IKN Authority, Basuki Hadimuljono, explained that major facilities such as the State Palace and the Garuda Palace are ready for use. “The roads are good, the area is ready, and all facilities have been ensured to function properly,” he said. This preparation is not only for the cabinet meeting but also as part of the long-term preparations for the operation of the new capital.
The Future at IKN
The cabinet meeting at IKN is also a reflection of Indonesia’s future vision. The relocation of the capital is expected to not only bring administrative changes but also accelerate development outside of Java, create new economic centers, and reduce the burden on Jakarta.
With the implementation of the inaugural cabinet meeting at IKN, Indonesia demonstrates its commitment to carrying out this grand plan. A smooth government transition and solid infrastructure preparations are expected to provide a strong foundation for the new government in the new capital.
