President Prabowo Subianto recently addressed the removal of profit-sharing bonuses, also known as tantiem, for commissioners and directors of state-owned enterprises (SOEs) operating at a loss. He highlighted the questionable practices related to tantiem in the SOE sector, emphasizing the need for transparency and accountability in financial matters. During a session presenting the 2026 State Budget Bill, Prabowo expressed his disbelief at the exorbitant bonuses received by some commissioners who rarely attended meetings. He stated that such practices are unacceptable and ordered a halt to tantiem payments for directors of underperforming companies. Furthermore, Prabowo announced a reduction in the number of commissioners in these SOEs, aiming to streamline decision-making processes and enhance operational efficiency. Emphasizing the importance of prudent financial management, the president called for responsible spending of public funds to drive meaningful outcomes, boost economic growth, and improve public services. His decisive actions to address financial irregularities within SOEs underscore his commitment to upholding integrity and ensuring sound governance practices in Indonesia’s business sector.
