Recruiting Low-Income Communities for MBG Nutrition Program Kitchens

The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) is set to recruit workers from impoverished communities to staff the Nutritional Fulfillment Service Units (SPPG) in an effort to boost local employment. Redy Hendra Gunawan, Special Staff to the National Nutrition Agency, highlighted that at least 30% of personnel in each SPPG will be selected from underprivileged households, following the President’s directive to make the Free Nutritious Meals (MBG) Program a source of job opportunities for those in the lowest economic deciles. Currently, there are 2,378 SPPG units in operation, working with 6,076 local economic institutions as suppliers. This includes cooperatives, village-owned enterprises (BUMDes/BUMDesma), and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). There are also 93,572 volunteers from local communities involved in the SPPG program, with over 7 million beneficiaries nationwide, covering various categories such as education levels, pregnant women, breastfeeding mothers, toddlers, and more. To expand the program’s reach, an additional 2,401 SPPG units will be launched in the next 10 days, increasing the total operational units to 4,788 and serving an estimated 15 million beneficiaries across the country.
