Malaysia is willing to send its peacekeeping troops to Gaza, Palestine, along with Indonesia’s troops. Malaysia’s willingness was conveyed after the Prime Minister spoke with Defense Minister Prabowo Subianto.
As reported by Antara on Monday (1/7/2024), Malaysia’s Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim expressed this willingness.
“Referring to the humanitarian situation in Palestine, I would like to inform you of Malaysia’s willingness to cooperate, including in terms of deploying peacekeeping forces together with Indonesia if mandated by the UN,” Anwar said on his social media account accessed in Kuala Lumpur on Monday.
Anwar stated that he had a three-minute conversation with Prabowo, expressing gratitude for the smooth operation carried out by the newly elected Indonesian president recently.
He also said he prayed that during the recovery period, Prabowo would receive good and intensive treatment and quick recovery to be able to resume his responsibilities promptly.
Anwar said they exchanged views on current issues, especially Prabowo’s role in representing Indonesia in the international arena recently and bringing vision, collaboration, and regional and universal peace.
“I welcome the idea of Malaysia-Indonesia international peacekeeping mission cooperation, and this cooperation can be expanded to the ASEAN regional level,” Anwar said.
At the end of the discussion, he expressed hope that Indonesia’s elections, which will conclude with the Regional Head Elections (Pilkada) on November 27, 2024, can proceed smoothly and be facilitated.
Furthermore, Anwar also expressed hope that all preparations for Prabowo’s inauguration as President of Indonesia on October 20, 2024, can proceed smoothly.
