Doha – Prabowo Subianto, the newly elected President of Indonesia for the period 2024-2029, accompanied by Vice President elect Gibran Rakabuming Raka, attended the Qatar Economic Forum in Doha on Wednesday, April 15, 2024.

During the event, Prabowo, who was one of the speakers, was asked about his upcoming leadership style.

Prabowo emphasized that he will remain true to himself in bringing prosperity to the people of Indonesia.

“I will remain true to myself, sincerely. That means being true to principles, values, aspirations as a patriot. My core value is the welfare of my people. My people must be safe, not hungry, and must have a good life. That is the dream of every patriot in every country in the world,” said Prabowo.

Furthermore, Prabowo stressed that his past military service will not influence his policies, including in terms of democracy in his leadership.

“You know, I have been out of the military for more than 25 years now. So, what you call militaristic, I think that is irrelevant, it has no connection to anything,” Prabowo stated firmly.

“Regarding democracy, why not ask the people of Indonesia? I have participated in election contests four times and sought the approval of the Indonesian people three times. They did not give their approval. This time they did. Where is the concern about democracy? In my view, it is fabricated by some people. So, I will work hard not to disappoint my people. The legacy we want to leave behind is a good name, a good name in the history of our country,” added Prabowo, followed by applause from the audience.

He expressed his willingness to serve based on a genuine desire to improve the welfare of the people of Indonesia. He wants to contribute with his insights and leadership experience.

“I have been raised in many countries and I have seen many of them are very poor. In my heart, I cannot accept that in this day and age. Indonesia is a member of the G20. Indonesia is the fourth most populous country in the world. Many of my people still live very difficult lives. That is what drives me. I want to do my part. I want to contribute with my insights and leadership experience. I believe I can contribute greatly to improving the lives of my people,” Prabowo concluded.
