Prabowo Subianto Receives Phone Call from Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Extends Congratulations and Talks about Future Collaboration

President-elect Prabowo Subianto for the 2024-2029 term received a call from Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Wednesday (1/5) to congratulate him and discuss the continuation of Canada-Indonesia cooperation.

Justin congratulated Prabowo on his victory in the election, stating, “I am very pleased to congratulate you on your strong victory in the massive election. I am extremely delighted.”

Prabowo expressed his appreciation for Justin’s congratulations and admiration for Pierre Trudeau, Justin’s father, and his current leadership. “Thank you, sir. It’s an honor for me to receive your call directly. I have always admired your father and you, your leadership, and I look forward to working with you,” Prabowo replied.

The two leaders discussed mutual interests to enhance bilateral relations between Canada and Indonesia, particularly focusing on their strong economic ties. They reaffirmed their support for ongoing negotiations on the Canada-Indonesia Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement and anticipated the Canadian Trade Mission to Indonesia later this year.

Furthermore, Prabowo and Justin talked about Canada’s Indo-Pacific strategy continuation, including potential cooperation in the essential minerals sector.

The Canadian Prime Minister’s office mentioned that Trudeau aims to strengthen the partnership between Canada and Indonesia once President-elect Prabowo Subianto starts his term in October.
